AI will transform wireless connectivity by improving performance, boosting capacity and minimizing energy consumption. But before those gains can be realized, we need to solve the challenge of interoperability. In a multivendor world, different networks and different devices all utilize different AI systems. These AI systems need to coordinate with one another, otherwise they will work at cross...

    I loathe Stephen Fry.

Fry, disregards the importance of struggle, direction, purpose and work to the human spirit. Those who find themselves without these things, are the fundamental cause to the rise in tribalism Fry seems unable to explain. We as humans have always worked, from hunter gather through to now and Fry is incorrect on this point. Whilst the nature of what we describe as work may fundamentally shift over time, we nonetheless should strive always towards a predilection to design it into our societies

Good. But I instantly noticed his misogyny. He said nobody should be tutting that he doesn’t mention women because there were no women, they only came later. This is Man’s first and greatest Patriarchal Reversal: the notion that men can exist without women and women are derived from men. But the Truth is the opposite: that all men come from women’s wombs.

The depth and breadth of Stephen's knowlege, insights and talent is difficult to believe. For my American friends, check out the old British comedies he used to star in, Blackadder - and A Bit of Fry and Lawrie, where he co-stars with the guy now known as "House". Not just a national treasure, an international treasure!

that final question about fighting back for science. dont. just tell the story of science. it is anyway winning as Fry points out earlier in the conversation, the world is getting better more educated, more scientific. so just keep telling the story of science and doing science to the best of your ability. that is always the best ammo against those who would tear it down.

What if we just evolved to not need to eat anymore? What if we could grow a crystalline power supply - similar to how some sea sponges grow glass bodies - capable of absorbing a wide swath of the electromagnetic spectrum and storing it directly as electricity. Carbon nanotube bodies muscles powered by hydraulic piezoelectric fluid - which would act as muscles but also as the nervous system. Brains that use photons to process data built upon the same crystal growing technology as the aforementioned power supply. The singularity is *going* to happen. We are trending toward it. It is inevitable. The more we fear it, the more it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy. If we no longer need food, drink, nor even shelter or warmth - what could they possibly use to hold us all hostage with? :) Not to mention human brains and emotions but with full control over our subsystems, superhuman bodies, brains capable of true parallel processing and access to vastly more thinking power, we'd be a pretty good match if machines became aware and decided we were a threat xD. Oh, I forgot to mention that data storage would be in two forms; static storage in the form of 5D crystals - look 'em up, they already exist - and fluid (or dynamic) storage which would literally be a fluid. Light + DNA could be used to read/write data. Imagine being able to upload your consciousness to several synthetic bodies and raise a family while exploring space and also doing oceanic studies and any other number of things you'd wanna do. Then imagine sharing all those memories simultaneously amongst your selves using quantum entangled photons a bit like a hivemind :D

I think Stephen Fry is a great human, and wise, but I doubt his predictions of the future of AI and of human society. All humans, including Stephen Fry, don't know what we don't know. What are the limits of A.I? We don't know, we could reach them anyday. I think people are often unaware of how much human intelligence is required to build an A.I. Humans always have to define what the inputs and the outputs mean. AI is a series of computations and algorithms. What the equations optimise and what is optimal are defined outside of the AI. A.I doesn't care and doesn't have the capacity for caring,. It might be able to simulate it the way weather models simulate the weather. But just as weather models don't create rain, simulating human emotions is creating emotions. Can humans live to 120? Some can but maybe there are some inherent limits to the age that a human can still function. It is a mistake to take the current rate of progress in any field of science and assume it will continue. Take physics, from 1890 to 1920 huge progress was made, but that rate of progress hasn't continued. We don't know what going to happen, we can only make educated guess, guesses we and Stephen Fry should be very uncertain about.
